Once a Fan, Always a Fan

I’m baaaaack! Did you miss me?

Well, dry your tears my friends. I’ve promised myself to get back in the blogging groove so to start things off again on the right foot, I’m going to share two of my favorite things with you – Football and Fitness!

Although it’s only May, the recent NFL draft has me in the mood for a little football in my life; specifically St. Louis RAMS football!  I love everything about game days, even in my cheerleading after-life…..whether I am watching from the comfort of my own home or cheering with a crowd of 60,000 people, it doesn’t get much better than football Sunday. 🙂  Once a fan, always a fan.

RamsWhat? Too much?

When I heard that the St. Louis Rams created the Lady Rams membership program, I jumped at the opportunity to join! Combining 3 of my favorite things- football, fitness and fashion? Winning.

Lady Rams Logo

For a $35 Annual Membership Fee, you get exclusive access to Rams events, the opportunity to mingle with players, cheerleaders (<– my personal fav, obviously) 😉 , personnel, merchandise, gifts and more!

Here’s what the membership includes:

  • Lady Rams t-shirt (<– to complete your Game Day wardrobe, perhaps?)
  • Membership packet
  • Monthly newsletter
  • Monthly drawings for autographed items, tickets, special experiences, etc. (<– I mean, who doesn’t love prizes?)
  • And the best part – Exclusive invitations to special Lady Rams-only events

All of that for $35?  Believe it!  If you are a female and you love football, you still have time to sign up!

There are 3 events coming up in St. Louis that you don’t want to miss:

Lady Rams Launch Event

When: June 12th

This event will be held at Ballpark Village and includes Complimentary food and beverage, along with the opportunity to meet Rams personnel and get to know other Lady Rams members. (Since we all share the same love of football, fitness and fashion, I have a feeling we will be fast friends) 🙂

Ladies Night at Training Camp

When: July (exact date TBD)

You will get an up-close look at the 2014 team at this private event.  If you haven’t been to an NFL training camp before, I would highly recommend it!  It’s a rare chance to see the players in their element, that up-close and personal.  Plus, all of the anticipation for the upcoming season makes for a really exciting atmosphere!

Girls Night Out

When: September (exact date TBD)

GNO. Enough said.  This event will be complete with food, drinks, a fashion show and guest appearances throughout the night…any guesses?

I also want to mention that a portion of the proceeds from the membership fees will benefit local St. Louis charities.  One of the many reasons why I am so proud to have been involved with the Rams, and continue to do so.  The organization is incredibly community-oriented and is constantly doing anything and everything they can to give back to the city and it’s fans.

You can find more information on the Lady Rams and sign up for your own membership here: http://www.stlouisrams.com/fans/ladyrams.html

Now, in the spirit of football and fitness (are you sensing a theme here?) I’ve created a workout you can do while watching the game on t.v.  I know, I know, football season is still months away but you can keep this one on the back burner, or even modify it to be 10 rounds of 10 until Sundays in the fall.  That will do the trick!

Football-Fitness WorkoutOk, now go on and get yourself a Lady Rams membership! 🙂

Have a great weekend!

The St. Louis Rams invited me to preview Lady Rams and provided me with a complimentary membership.

5-15 Minute Plank Workout

Well, I did it again…one more injury to add to the list. I decided to go for a 5 mile run on a whim with my mom (my multi-marathoner mom, that is) two weeks ago. I actually thought I did pretty well and felt good, considering I don’t think I’ve run more than 3 miles since my mud run last October. 🙂 Took it easy the next day but then when I attempted to run two days later, my foot had other ideas. I’ve never had a stress fracture before, but this felt different than any other pain. I got an x-ray and turns out I don’t have a fracture. This is good news…except that I the only thing to do now is sit back and “relax” (ha, not a word that comes up in my vocabulary often) until whatever it is heals. As you can probably imagine, the past two weeks have been pretty frustrating but I’ve tried to convince myself that my body is telling me to take a break and I should try to embrace it. Easier said than done, but in the meantime I’m doing more low-impact/upper body/ab workouts and will get back to the running and burpees in due time…ok, so maybe I’m not in a bug rush to get back to burpees. 😉

Here’s a plank workout that’s easily done at home.   One time through adds up to 5 minutes, so this can be a 5, 10, or 15 minute workout, just depends on what you are feeling!

Ladder Workout and Whole30 Snack

Sometimes when I go to the gym, all I want to do is put my brain on auto-pilot and get in and get out.  A good workout doesn’t always have to be multiple rounds of multiple reps and…wait am I on round 3 or round 4? Was this exercise supposed to be 30 seconds or 1 minute?  Don’t get me wrong, I love a good, intense workout but sometimes it’s nice to put together a short and sweet plan and get ‘er done.

Here’s a ladder workout that requires little to no equipment.  This can easily be done at home, just use a (sturdy!) chair for the box jumps and warm up by doing high knees, running your stairs, “fake” jump roping, etc.

Bodyweight Ladder WorkoutThe Easter egg theme was totally unintentional.  I think it’s my subconscious talking? #comeonspring

I know I’m making this the most random post ever, but I also wanted to share a fun appetizer recipe that is Whole30/Paleo approved! During the Whole30 challenge, Matt and I made it a point not to go out for dinner/drinks because…well, what’s the point?  If anything, the challenge certainly saved us a lot of money!  We did end up spontaneously having a few friends over one night and I was determined to whip up a few snacks that I could eat AND my guests would enjoy….also so I wasn’t a huge hostess-fail. These bacon wrapped dates are good any time, anywhere. Challenge or no challenge.  I mean, who doesn’t love bacon?

DSC02020Bacon Wrapped Dates

Cook bacon in a skillet until halfway done, then wrap around a date (pitted!) and secure with a toothpick. Bake at 350 until bacon is cooked through.  Frying the bacon before baking makes it a little crispier in the end.  I also only used about a half a piece of bacon per date, but it really depends on the ratio you prefer.

That’s all for today!  Make it a great one!

Tush-Toning Gym Workout

Hello, my long lost friends!  I apologize for the lack of posts lately…things have been a little crazy around here.  Maybe crazy isn’t the right word, but just busier than normal.  Part of that is because Matt and I started the Whole30 challenge last Monday and I don’t think I realized how much prep is really needed to complete this the right way…more on that when I recap my meals later this week!  I’m also reeeaaalllyy trying to buckle down and study for my personal trainer certification but it’s easier said than done because life always seems to get in the way.  I’m one of those people who tends to bite off more than I can chew and then the perfectionist/over-achiever side of me stresses about getting it all done, and done RIGHT. Sometimes I need to realize that some things might have to give a little.  Maybe I don’t post as often as I did when I started blogging, maybe I don’t read and comment on my fellow bloggers’ posts as much as I would like (I still love you all!), maybe I don’t get my certification by March like I planned, maybe we eat eggs for dinner (more than once in a week) just because I don’t feel like cooking…but it’s OK.  Life is going to go on and it’s better when I learn to let go more and stress less. 🙂

Having said all of that, I just ask that you bear with me as I juggle this thing called life, like I know we all do!

Today, I’ve got a short and sweet leg workout, with more of a focus on the boot-ay. This is the workout I did before I filmed so like I said before, I was a little more tired than usual, so my form isn’t 100%…

Snow Day Workout

Is it spring yet?! Snow, you’re pretty and all, but we all know beauty is only skin deep. It’s really not all it’s cracked up to be unless you’re 10 years old and get a day off to go sledding.

Sorry for the Instagram tease last week. I fully intended on posting this workout on Friday but my camera had other plans. I decided to video tape the exercises to go along with the workout instead of photos, or nothing at all. I figured it would be much easier to understand the moves this way. For some reason my camera and computer were not getting along and I had to resort to plan B. My husband was nice enough to tape everything again on Sunday night. God love ya, babe. 🙂

I will say one positive thing about all of this snow is that it has forced me to get a little creative and create workouts that challenge me at home, without access to my usual equipment. It’s good to switch it up!

Snow Day Tabata

I’ll apologize in advance for my awkwardness. I’ll get the hang of it eventually but for now you are left with these semi-embarrassing videos. I will preface this by saying that I filmed these after a tough leg workout, so my form isn’t perfect and you can tell my body is a little tired. 🙂

So Much Snoozing, So Little Time…

A trainer once told me…

10 Minutes

I think I need to reintroduce that mantra into my life.

Backing up to Wednesday morning…

5:15 – Alarm sounds. Immediate snooze. Pretty sure I didn’t even open my eyes.

5:25 – Alarm sounds. Alarm off. One eye open this time.

6:00 – Both eyes open…CRAP!

Fast forward 15 minutes and I’m at the gym, with 30 minutes to get in and get out. I hadn’t put together a workout in advance (whoops) and I wasn’t really in the mood to do a multi-circuit, detailed workout, so I warmed up for 10 minutes on the bike and then decided to combine some of my favorite exercises into one workout and just go-big-or-go-home for 20 minutes straight. Here’s what it looked like!

20 Minute AMRAP

Between the kettlebell swings and split box jumps, my inner thighs were pretty sore for a couple days afterwards so mission = accomplished!

(For those of you who aren’t familiar, for Split Box Jumps, instead of starting with the box in front of you, start with one foot on the floor on each side of the box then jump up onto the box so your feet meet in the middle.)

I hope you all have a great weekend!
